Welcome to PaintboxTV! This is a subscription-based educational web site dedicated to teaching, and enhancing your experience with, digital painting on desktop (Corel Painter on Mac or PC) and on mobile (iPad), with updated new content added every month. If you’re looking to see artwork by Jeremy Sutton, please click here, and if you’re looking for information on Jeremy’s Live Event Painting entertainment services, please click here. PaintboxTV has over 450 lively, stimulating and inspiring educational online tutorial videos, plus downloadable Painter and Procreate (iPad app) Extras and monthly virtual PainterLabs and iPadArtJams. I originally created this site in 2009 to help people enjoy and make the most of the paint program Corel Painter. The majority of the content still relates to the Mac/Win program Corel Painter, which, in combination with the Wacom graphics tablet, I have been using for digital painting for the last 25 years. The main Painter interface and features has remained fairly stable since version Painter 12, and thus most of the archive video content will is useful and relevant even in the latest Painter.

Enjoy your visit.

There are two PaintboxTV Premium Membership subscription options: monthly or annual (see links below). By far the best value is to become an Annual Premium Member for $199 per year, which works out at just $16.58 per month. This compares to the Monthly Premium Membership subscription which is $29.95 per month. Annual members have access to video downloads, where they are available on the site. All PaintboxTV Premium members, whether monthly or annual subscribers, have access to all the video tutorial content on the site and can download the latest Painter Extras, which includes my latest Painter workspace, brushes, art materials, and Wacom settings; and download my latest iPad Art Extras, which includes 20 custom Procreate brushes. Membership includes the monthly PainterLabs and iPadArtJams, live virtual meetings where I answer your questions, assist with projects and demonstrate techniques in an informal interactive online setting.
Best place to start?
For learning Painter go to PAINTER TUTORIALS / PAINTER 2018 for latest Painter 2018 tutorials, and for learning iPad art, go to IPAD ART TUTORIALS, all under the left hand side menu tabs If you’re looking for a specific topic then try typing in key words in the keyword field in the upper left. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for please drop me a line. I am always happy to help!
How do you know when your current subscription will expire or when your next recurring billing will be?
If you haven’t yet entered any payment information and wish to subscribe, please go to “My Account” (a tab on the top menu) where you’ll find your current membership expiration date and options for monthly or annual subscription. If you are already a paid subscriber I can look up your subscription date and let you know the recurring billing is scheduled to occur. If you need any assistance or have any questions please email me at email@example.com.
Is there a way to copy the videos onto your computer hard drive?
The Annual Premium Subscription option includes access to download videos for offline viewing, where such downloads are available. Both Monthly and Annual Premium Subscription options provide access to view videos online via streaming.
What are the technical requirements in order watch the videos?
This site works on Mac OS and Windows PC computers, and on Android and iOS devices, and in Chrome, Safari and Firefox browsers, in fact most browsers EXCEPT Internet Explorer. To view the videos you will need to have a QuickTime player (Windows PC users see QuickTime for Windows).
What software and tools are needed to try out the digital painting exercises?
This site includes tutorials on digital painting with Corel Painter (Mac or PC program) and also digital painting on the iPad. To follow along with the latest Painter video tutorials on Painter I recommend the latest version of Corel Painter, and a Wacom tablet. Please note that even though I recommend having the latest version, you do not need it to belong to and benefit from PaintboxTV. Much of the material on the site is applicable within earlier versions of Painter. I recommend either a Wacom Intuos Pro or Wacom Cintiq model of pen tablet, medium size or larger. Regularly check for updates to the Wacom driver in the Wacom Desktop Center which you’ll find automatically installed on either Mac or Windows, or you can visit the Wacom web site and choose Product Support > Drivers. To check what Wacom driver version you have currently go to your Wacom Control Panel (Apple menu > System Preferences on a Mac, or Start > Control Panels on a PC) and click on the About button in the lower left. It is always well worth keeping your Wacom driver up to date.
How much bandwidth will attending one of the PainterLabs typically use?
It uses approximately 200 MB bandwidth to download an hour long PainterLab recording, or participate live in an hour long PainterLab. This data is based on Deanna’s research – thanks, Deanna, for sharing your findings.
What’s the story behind PaintboxTV?
I founded PaintboxTV, originally called PaintboxJ, in February 2009. I wish to thank and acknowledge Isabelle, an artist who joined a Painter workshop I taught in my old college at Oxford University, for kindly and enthusiastically encouraging me to create an online way to deliver my instructional material. Originally it was a way for me to deliver more timely educational material to my students, rather than having to wait for the turn-around time involved in writing a book or producing a DVD-ROM. PaintboxTV allows me to share more process more spontaneously and to respond faster to new versions, updates and ever-changing technology and tools. It has evolved into a much deeper and more interactive way to share, teach and inspire. As with all things of this magnitude, creating PaintboxTV is a team effort and I’d like to thank and acknowledge my sweetie Peggy for her incredible support, video editing in the early days and great suggestions, Eric for working tirelessly on this new iteration of the site, Peter for his help with the old original PaintboxJ, Susanne for helping with early brainstorming, and, of course, my family: my mum Margaret whose art first inspired me to draw and paint, my dad Maurice from who I caught my insatiable curiosity about the world, and my sisters Liz, Debbi and Ros, for their encouragement.
